Susan Jones, DVM, PhD, Associate Professor, Program in the History of Science, Technology, Medicine, Dept. of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior at the University of Minnesota. 
Susan will present a paper titled: “How Anthrax Became a Biological Weapon: Two Historical Factors”.
Susan's research interests focus on the changing scientific understanding of disease over time in conjunction with the historical context in which scientists worked; the structure and practice within the biomedical sciences and professions; and scientists' influences on human-animal interactions. Susan is currently working on two book-length projects that investigate the modern histories of bovine tuberculosis and anthrax in a transnational context. These projects are part of Susan's overall program of exploring the historical ecology of zoonotic diseases. In addition, Susan is a participant in the University's Consortium on Law and Values in Health, the Environment, and the Life Sciences and a member of the National Center for the Study of Terrorism and the Response to Terrorism.
All are welcome to attend the seminar (January 9th, 2013 from 3:30 – 5:00 pm at Laurel Heights campus in Conference Room 474) and there is no need to register.
