'The Healing Art of Writing' conference and workshop

"The Healing Art of Writing" Conference and workshop is a unique opportunity for writers and poets in the healing professions and for patients to creatively express their experiences. The last conference, two years ago, resulted in selected work being published by the University of California Press. The book, edited by Joan Baranow, Brian Dolan, and David Watts, is part of the Perspectives in Medical Humanities book series, directed by Professor Brian Dolan. "The Healing Art of Writing" is a collection of poems and short pieces “about the mysterious forces of illness and recovery. . . Being cured of a disease is not the same as being healed, and the writing of poetry and prose bring us to a place of healing”. David Watts, one of the editors and authors of the book, also leads the group Poets on Parnassus, an informal meeting of people interested in writing or sharing poems. They meet on most Mondays at 4:30 p.m. in Dr. Watt’s office, 350 Parnassus, #900 and are open to anyone with any level of experience. There are now a limited number of scholarships available for UCSF students and faculty to attend the conference July 8–14 at Dominican University in San Rafael. Please contact Dr. David Watts if you are interested. Details about the workshop are available here. Deadline for applications is May 1.
