Equality’s Boundaries: Science, Citizenship, and Medicine in the Negev/Naqab

Hello everyone: Our last seminar series of the this academic year will take place this Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 3:30 – 5:00 pm in the Laurel Heights Conference Room 474. Please join us to hear Na’amah Razon, PhD Candidate, UCSF Medical Anthropology Program, talk about 'Equality’s Boundaries: Science, Citizenship, and Medicine in the Negev/Naqab'. In 1994 Israel passed the National Health Insurance Law (NHIL), guaranteeing universal and equal healthcare services to all citizens. The NHIL transformed Bedouin citizens’ access to medical services, increasing their insurance coverage from 60% to 100%, and changing the patient demographic in the regional hospital. In this talk Na’amah Razon will examine how healthcare professionals translate healthcare reform into practice and act as intermediaries who create links between medicine and citizenship.
