Dorothy Porter lecturing at the Wellcome Library on 'Creative Disability and the Shaking Palsy'

We are glad to announce that the honor of the 10th Wellcome Library Roy Porter lecture has been bestowed on our Dorothy Porter, Professor in the History of Health Sciences, who will present her current research on 'Creative Disabililty and the Shaking Palsy: Approaching a history of Parkinson's Disease'. The Wellcome Library Roy Porter lecture series was established in 2003 in memory of Professor Roy Porter, eminent historian of medicine and the health sciences, and former professor of the social history of medicine at the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine. Starting with the publishing of his doctoral thesis, as The Making of Geology in 1977, Porter wrote or edited over one hundred books on a wide range of subjects before his premature death in 2002. Among these, a history of the Enlightment, several volumes on the history of madness and psychiatry ('e.g. A social history of madness: Stories of the Insane'), of medicine and a social history of London. The lecture will take place on Wednesday May 23rd at 630 pm at Wellcome Collection, 183 Euston Road, London NW1 2BE. A reception will follow in the Wellcome Library (same building) at 730 pm.
